We want to share the beginning of our journey to becoming the owners of Our Eco Babies with you.
For us, Our Eco Babies was and is the perfect opportunity to share our passion for safe, gentle and natural alternatives with others. We considered ourselves normal everyday people. We had always chosen natural remedies and the least invasive options if we were unwell, but back then it was easy to believe that our choices didn’t affect anyone but ourselves. But then we fell pregnant with our son.
All of a sudden we were overwhelmed by, inundated even, with all the information out there about pregnancy and childbirth and raising children and… All. The. Things. And it was blindingly obvious that life was bigger than just us. And so we read and read and read some more. We listened to friends and strangers (yes, strangers) as they recounted their sometimes horrific stories surrounding their birth experiences, and gave some well meaning advice about parenting. But we knew in our hearts that birth didn’t have to be the horrible experience we had heard about so often and we spent time connecting and listening to that inner voice, those instincts, that were guiding us in a gentler direction and we went searching for an alternative. And we found it!
We were determined to do our best to ensure the birth we believed would be the best start for our little one and for us, could happen. We decided to birth at home in the most natural environment possible with the support of each other and our qualified and supportive birth team. And it was everything we could have hoped for, for all of us. Before Bronson was born, we thought the fire had been ignited within us, inspiring us to lead the healthiest lives we could. Looking back now, it was clear we had no idea. No idea how our reality would change, no idea that our perception and experience of everything around us would alter so dramatically, the moment our son joined us earth side.
And just like that, after what seemed simultaneously like an eternity and the blink of an eye, he was here. And in the instant he was born, everything mattered.
Everything mattered so much more than we ever knew was possible. And we were changed forever because of it. Slowly but surely everything we have done since then has lead us on the path to Our Eco Babies. We had become passionate advocates for informed birth choices for birthing women and families and we were inspired to share our story in the hope that it may encourage others. We shared our birth film online in the hopes that our positive experience might help others believe in themselves and know that it was possible to have a beautiful and positive birth experience.
Everything we consumed and used, everything that came into our home and in contact with our family and our baby… we wanted it to be safe and free from harm to us and to anything else, to nurture us all from the inside out, to serve our family and not contribute to the destruction of the earth. Our new child in all his newborn glory with every cry, smile and laugh, encouraged us to do better, everyday. For him, us and the environment.
We really do try our best to make the best choices we can with the information we have available to us. From the food we eat, to the remedies we use in our home, to the way we parent; we choose to live consciously and mindfully. We always try to be gentle, on both ourselves and others, especially in the way we parent – although that is sometimes easier said than done. We want to share the knowledge we have gained so far and our passion with others, grow as people and give back to our community. We don’t always get it right; there are many times that we could do better. But one thing we did get right and one of our reasons to keep on trying to be better, is our son.
And so we would love to share with you, a glimpse into our lives on the day it all began for us. The day we became parents, became a family and the day we were put on the path to Our Eco Babies. The day our son, Bronson was born.
We look forward to sharing our journey with Our Eco Babies, with you and yours.
